Pi Tau Sigma

Under the new leadership of Lisa Mazzo, the mechanical engineering honor society, Pi Tau Sigma, is on its way to another successful semester. Many of their activities will be focused on department fraternity and participation. Members volunteer every week to tutor lower classmen in all ENGS and MECH courses. In hopes of familiarizing lower classmen with upper classmen, Pi Tau Sigma will host a monthly mechanical "social." The honor society will also sponsor a department Halloween party and, of course, the annual Holiday Banquet, proving that academic merit is often rewarded with some fun!
Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers

SHPE has a lot going on for this year, with a number of events that span from social, to academic, to community service. In the beginning of November, SHPE's MC chapter hosted a trip to Philadelphia for the biggest career conference of the year at this year's SHPE conference. Later this semester, SHPE will host a trip to the Sony museum, which was held last year as well. Also planned is an ice skating trip at the end of November right before the semester winds down.

For the spring semester, expect even more events, including a second career conference of the year. Previously a fall event, the Eastern Technical Career Conference (ETCC) will be held this February in Washington D.C. There will also be the yearly Junior High School Olympiad, which is an event where kids from a local junior high school are brought in to participate in an engineering centric competition that will expose kids to the ways of engineering at a younger age. SHPE has plans to participate in an SAT tutoring program as well. To end the year with a bang, SHPE will host its annual End of the Year Banquet, which anyone who's gone in the past years can vouch for it being a great time. All in all, SHPE's calendar of events is as packed as can be. Look forward to another great year with SHPE MC.

American Society of Mechanical Engineers

After sponsoring the extremely successful black box competition last semester, the Manhattan College Chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) has been heartily revived. The club subsequently welcomed many new members this semester. Although many exciting activities, such as a ski trip, soft ball team, and the black box competition, are already on the drawing board for next semester, two main events are on the agenda for this semester. A trip to the Chelsea Brewery (yes, BEER brewery!), in Chelsea, NY, is planned for sometime between late October to early November. Tickets will be limited, so be sure to keep and eye out for this event. Also, several guest speakers will be invited to lecture at Manhattan College, including representatives from Lockheed Martin Corp. The primary goal of ASME is getting members involved in planning events, and since new executive board elections are in December, now is a good time to get involved!

Chi Epsilon

On Friday, November 2, 2007, Chi Epsilon had its annual induction ceremony.  The elected officers remain from last semester: Danielle Koch, President;  Patrick D'Ambrosio, Vice-President;  Malory Men Nguyen, Treasurer;  Caitlin Slattery, Secretary;  Michael Skowronek, Corresponding Secretary;  Leszek Czajkowski, Marshall.  Together, these students inducted the new members of Chi Epsilon.  The new additions to the society was a total of 27 new members.

There was a large number of inductees this year because Chi Epsilon extended its acceptance to Environmental Engineers as well as Civil Engineers.  In order to be inducted these new members were required to perform 2 hours of community service as well as 2 hours of tutoring.  As for the end of the semester Chi Epsilon intends on having an end of the year banquet involving all the senior Civil and Environmental Engineers.

Tau Beta Pi

Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society, is currently preparing for the ceremonial induction of its new members to be held on November 9th. All current and old members will offer tutoring in a variety of classes in Fischbach and schedules for this can be found posted throughout all of Leo Engineering building. In addition, several projects are also in the works that range from possibly hosting guest speakers to general improvement of the Leo Engineering building.

Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers

This semester brings many new faces to the Manhattan College chapter of IEEE.  New officers were elected last year and begin their terms this semester: Brian Bolz '08 is the new president, Chris Wong '08 is the vice president, and John Bekisz '08 is the new secretary.   The Fall 2008 semester has also brought a great deal of new members to the group from all engineering disciplines.  Two guest speakers have come including a group from Entergy that spoke to students from both IEEE and ASME.  Next semester, a trip is being planned for a possible tour of ABC television studios and the IEEE headquarters in Piscataway, NJ.

The American Institute of Chemical Engineers

The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) has an exciting semester to look forward to!  The new cabinet members will be attending the National AIChE Meeting from November 2nd to 5th in Salt Lake City, Utah.  In addition, much preparation is underway by the ChemE Car club due to the exciting fact that they are hosting the regional car competitions in April 2008 here on campus!  The next AIChE meeting is on October 31.  This meeting will be a great way to learn more about the club and its upcoming events.
